Bev Schoorman
Talented & Gifted

My name is Bev Schoorman and I've been a teacher for the Everly and Clay Central/Everly districts for 31 (!) years. After graduating from Everly H.S. in 1974, I earned my Assosiates of Arts degree from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls in 1976 and my Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Reading from the University of Northern Iowa (go Panthers!) in 1978.

I long term subbed in Spencer as a remedial reading teacher from Feb.-June 1978 (lots of 4 day weeks due to snowstorms) and accepted the E.H.S. remedial reading teacher position. During the interview I was also asked if I was up to a challenge (or two) and I said sure. So I became the cheerleading and the yearbook sponsors. At the end of my first year of teaching I got married to Vernon on May 31, 1980. I eventually became the Stepperette (dance team) sponsor too.

When Everly and Clay Central became CC-E in the fall of 1990, other high school teachers took over the yearbook, cheerleading, and dance team responsibilities. That's when I was asked if I wanted another challenge - elementary T.A.G. I said sure, and here I am! In 2005 I completed my T.A.G. endorsement.

I'm also the academic events coordinator which involves organizing, scheduling, supervising, and going to math, spelling, and geography bees, MS & HS quiz bowl tournaments, creative writing, art, photography, and V.F.W. contests, Cutty's Student Product Convention, and the annual patriotic program. Special memories include going to Washington D.C. for the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 1993, being on the televised KTIV quiz bowl show 4 times, and going to state (geography bee - 10 times, spelling bee - 10, vocabulary bee - 4, Mathcounts - 3, and 6th grade math bee - 2). Our school is full of creative, talented, and dedicated students.

Some of my hobbies are reading, writing poetry, canning homemade salsa, baking treats for the football players, KMO quiz bowl, or the staff, going to Neil Diamond concerts, traveling to CO to see family, watching NASCAR (go Mark Martin) and NHRA (go Ashley and John Force) races, the Denver Broncos, Syracuse Orange, and of course, the CC-E Mavericks.

CC-E - I can't think of a better place to be!
