independent reading; Individualized program based on each student's
ability - Students read novels of their choice and reading level;
then test comprehension through computerized testing)

·Vocabulary Development
We begin each quarter reading a class
novel together (2-4 weeks). This usually requires students to
read the remainder of a chapter each evening as a homework
assignment.
The remainder of the quarter is focused
on nonfiction / technical reading, poetry, oral reading fluency, and
specific skills (such as finding the main idea; reading and
following directions, locating information, drawing conclusions / inferencing,
etc.)
